The old record was 35, set by Geoff Esper at the inaugural championship in 2025, Dexerto reported.

Major League Eating announced the new mark on X:

Joey Chestnut sets a NEW WORLD RECORD at the World Pancake Eating Championship with 40 pancakes in 10 min!

Max Stanford finished second with 28 pancakes. Nick Wehry took third with 27.

The pancakes added up to 10 pounds of food, the Daily Press reported.

The judge announced the record while holding Chestnut’s hand, Flat Hat News reported.

It was Chestnut’s first pancake-eating contest and his first competitive appearance in Virginia. The win came one week after he won the World Poutine Eating Championship in Toronto, and not long after his Nathan’s hot dog win.
