PORTILLO’S LAUNCHED A DR PEPPER SHAKE WITH 23 FLAVORS
Portillo’s rolled out a Dr Pepper shake built on all 23 signature flavors, plus a version with a whole slice of chocolate cake inside.
The Dr Pepper Shake and the Dr Pepper Cake Shake, made in collaboration with Dr Pepper, launched on August 4, 2026. Portillo’s announced them on social media the same day.
NBC Chicago quoted the Portillo’s website as saying, “If you’ve ever wished you could drink your Dr Pepper and eat your Portillo’s Shake at the same time, we have some good news.”
The Instagram teaser was just as direct: “If you love @drpepper, you have to try our new Dr Pepper Shake.”
What was in the shakes
The regular Dr Pepper Shake combined Portillo’s vanilla shake with Dr Pepper flavor. AOL quoted the Instagram caption as calling it a “Rich, sweet, and creamy Vanilla Shake blended with all 23 signature Dr Pepper flavors, for a one-of-a-kind taste in every sip.”
Portillo’s called the shake sweet, creamy, bold and nostalgic.
The Cake Shake took things further by blending in a whole slice of Portillo’s chocolate cake. The same caption pushed it to the chocolate fans: “And if you’re a chocolate cake person, you gotta try it as a Cake Shake.”
The Cake Shake was offered only at Portillo’s.
Where and how long
The shakes were available at participating Portillo’s restaurants nationwide for a limited time, while supplies lasted. NBC Chicago reported that the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport location was excluded.
Portillo’s published its collaboration press release on August 13, 2026. It said the shakes were “available now for a limited time” and presented them as a summer treat.
The Daily Herald also reported that the shakes should be available through September.
Dexerto labeled the drink a one-of-a-kind milkshake available only at the restaurant chain.
What happened next
Portillo’s has since moved on to a separate dessert lineup. The Portillo’s website lists an OREO promotion with OREO Cake, an OREO Shake and an OREO Cookie Cake Shake, starting October 6, 2026.
That promotion runs through November 9, while supplies last.
