VITO, 97, DIED AFTER DANCING TO STAYIN’ ALIVE AT HIS PARTY
A 97-year-old man known as Vito died at his own birthday party just after dancing to “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees, according to his neighbor, TikTok baker Eden Malinoff. She had made the cake for the night, which Vito wanted to be a “Halloween-birthday rager” in “true Vito fashion,” and her videos of the evening have since gone viral.
Malinoff, who runs the account BakedSoCal, first posted about it on November 2, 2026, in a video Dexerto covered. She showed off the cake, then said Vito “made a dramatic exit” and that the night “did not end as anticipated” for the guests.
“If there is any way that Vito could have chosen to go out, it would have been like this. He was surrounded by people he loved, we were celebrating his long and full life, and I am just so grateful that I got to be a part of it,” she said, over clips of him dancing.
Viewers noticed the song in the background and flooded her comments with questions. On November 3, Malinoff posted a longer version that confirmed he had danced to “Stayin’ Alive” before he passed.
The cake had a story too. The Mary Sue reports that when Malinoff asked Vito for his secret to a long life, his answer was “not to drink cheap.” She baked him a red wine chocolate cake in response.
Malinoff described Vito as someone who lived life to the fullest and said he taught her not to let age stop her. She added that his friends “believe that he was ready and honestly there’s not a better way to go.”
One friend also wrote about it on Instagram. “He had some medical issues that we didn’t know the severity of, and he passed away respectfully with his favorite music going. Rest in peace, you legend.” The Mary Sue, summarizing a friend’s account, says he died just after the group sang “Happy Birthday.”
Commenters on TikTok had plenty to say. “I’m sorry how are you not TRAUMATIZED,” one wrote. Another said, “I would choose this over rotting away in a hospital bed/retirement home 100% of the time,” and a third asked, “I’m sorry he DIED? at the PARTY?”
Malinoff’s videos have pulled in well over 10 million views since November 3, according to Dexerto. Other accounts have reshared the clips too, so a lot of people who never met Vito now know exactly how he spent his last night.
