AMAZON DRIVER GAVE $10K TO A CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
An Amazon delivery driver was thanked by so many customers that a children’s hospital ended up with $10,000.
Greylon Anthony, from Charlotte, North Carolina, was among the five drivers who received the most thank-yous in Amazon’s “Alexa, Thank My Driver” program. His $10,000 gift to Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital came to light on February 15, 2023, WSOC-TV reported.
Amazon announced the promotion on December 7, 2022. Customers could say, “Alexa, thank my driver,” and Amazon covered a $5 tip for eligible thank-yous, NPR reported.
Amazon awarded Anthony $10,000 for finishing among the top five. It also let him direct a $10,000 donation to a charity of his choice.
He picked the children’s hospital.
Why he chose the hospital
Anthony said he selected the hospital so it could buy essentials and provide care for pediatric patients. The hospital received $10,000 on behalf of Anthony and Amazon.
Entrepreneur reported that he donated his check to the hospital.
Amazon said nearly 8 million thank-yous had been sent to drivers since the program launched.
The $5 tips did not last long. Amazon’s promotion covered only the first one million thank-you messages, and the tipping portion ended after that. Amazon blamed the “enthusiastic response,” NPR reported.
Customers could still send a thank-you message after the tips ended.
