YOUNG MAN PAID FOR MEMPHIS WOMAN’S GAS WITH $20
A woman teased two young men over their orange juice at a Memphis gas station, and one of them ended up paying for her gas.
Olivia Jennings was at a Marathon station when she began joking with the pair in front of her, a moment Sunny Skyz reported on December 31, 2021.
“I was teasing him about all the orange juice they were buying,” Jennings told WREG.
One of the young men then offered to buy her gas.
The offer that wasn’t a joke
Jennings figured he was kidding. She pulled out her credit card and told him she could pay for her own gas.
He wasn’t kidding.
“I thought he was teasing and I pulled out my credit card, and I said, ‘oh it’s ok, I got it.’ He said, ‘no, ma’am, I really want to buy your gas.’ I said, ok,” Jennings told WREG.
The young man then handed her $20.
Jennings was touched enough that she asked him to take a picture with her so she could post about it online. She shared the photo and the story in a Facebook post, which hundreds of people liked and shared.
“Memphis has good youth”
Jennings said people came together to affirm that Memphis has good young people.
“It was absolutely great for everybody coming together saying yes, you are right Memphis has good youth,” she told WREG. “No matter what you say, we’ve got them. They are everywhere.”
Jennings wanted people to know that good people are all over Memphis, a city she said gets a bad reputation.
“The young man is about the same age as my son,” Jennings told Click2Houston.
Her hope was simple: that people would tell him he did something kind.
“I would just like to know if he did something kind, people would at least say something. You know, ‘You’re a good kid,'” she said.
