A GAS STATION REGULAR TOOK IN HER CASHIER’S BABY BOY

D’Amber Davis says her son was with her when he told her: “Mama, we gotta get that baby.” The gas station adoption that followed began with a pregnant cashier and a customer who stopped in nearly every day.

Nolan arrived healthy, at 7 pounds, 8 ounces, and Davis brought him home and raised him as her son. On October 19, 2026, Katelyn Sparks, the cashier who gave birth to him, was still in his life, and the two women described their bond as a sisterhood, WTHR reported.

Davis was a regular at a Central Georgia gas station, and Sparks worked the register. They regularly talked when she came in.

Then Davis noticed Sparks was pregnant, about 33 weeks along. Sparks told her she could not take care of the baby.

Davis had thought about adoption before. She had even browsed Georgia’s adoption website, but she planned to wait until she finished school and her finances were steadier.

The wait ended in a moment. “In my mind I’m just like, instantly, I got to get this baby. Not knowing nothing. I just know I got to get this baby,” Davis said.

She went back to the gas station the next day and asked Sparks whether she would let Davis take in the baby. Sparks agreed.

The money was not tidy. Davis had graduated and worked for herself, and she said her income was not what it normally would be.

Sparks, she learned, had received no prenatal care. Davis helped find a doctor and took her to an obstetric assessment at Atrium. The results were normal, Davis said.

After Nolan was born, Live Action reported, Davis officially adopted him. “I thought he needed me, but I really needed him,” she said.

She has told WMAZ that Nolan will always know where he came from. “I’m his mom, but that’s his bio mom, and he will forever know that.”

Sparks has her own way of putting it. “She’s more or less like my big sister,” she said.

Davis said the friendship helped Sparks reconnect with her mother and spend more time with her other son. Sparks said it brought her closer to her family.

Davis also started a TikTok page called “Love Makes a Family” to share their story.
