Despite the scale of her financial impact, Scott notably missed a spot on the Chronicle of Philanthropy’s top 50 list. This omission stems from her preference for quiet, under-the-radar giving. She rarely seeks press coverage for her donations and often declines to provide detailed information to traditional philanthropic trackers regarding her donor-advised funds.
The motivation behind this massive wealth distribution appears deeply personal rather than transactional. Scott has cited past acts of kindness as her inspiration, such as a college roommate who provided $1,000 to keep her in school. She expressed in a December essay that these “ripple effects” prove the underestimated power of non-transactional contribution.
