SCOTTISH WAITRESS, 22, ENGAGED 24 HOURS AFTER MEETING JAKE

A Scottish waitress got engaged 24 hours after meeting the American man who commented on her YouTube video.

Dani Scott, 22, a waitress in Galashiels, Scotland, said yes to Jake, 24, a South Carolina retail worker. He traveled from South Carolina to Scotland in February 2026 for their first face-to-face meeting, and he proposed during a walk.

“The day after we met, Jake proposed, whilst we were on a walk,” Dani told The Mirror.

How a YouTube comment turned into a romance

Dani makes YouTube videos about “dumbphones,” meaning phones without smartphone features or internet capabilities.

Jake first contacted her after commenting on one of those videos. Her video inspired him to start his own channel on the topic, PEOPLE reported.

They swapped messages, then moved on to phone calls, all while living about 4,000 miles apart.

“We started dating a week after our first call, even though we’d never met in person,” Dani said.

The timing was messy. Dani’s previous wedding had been called off a few weeks before it was due to take place.

“I met Jake through YouTube, a month after splitting from my fiancĂ©, who I broke up with a few weeks before our wedding,” she said.

Jake’s first visit to Scotland lasted 12 days. The proposal came right at the start of it, and Dani accepted. She called it “so exciting.”

Her friends had mixed reactions to the speed of the engagement, especially so soon after her split from her former fiancé.

What happens next

The couple plan to marry in summer 2027, the Mirror reported. Dani then plans to relocate to the United States.
