BANDAI MADE A TAMAGOTCHI RING YOU RAISE A PET ON
Bandai announced the Tamagotchi ring on August 27, 2026, a finger-worn virtual pet device priced at 7,700 yen, to mark the franchise’s 30th anniversary. Reservations opened through Premium Bandai the same day, and the company says it is the first Tamagotchi you can wear on a finger and care for.
The ring lets you raise a virtual pet on your finger, Dexerto reported. Bandai’s Japanese press release used the phrase “世界最小” (“world’s smallest”), and the company’s English product listing calls it the world’s smallest ring-shaped Tamagotchi device.
The ring is about 28 mm long. That is roughly half the length of the original Tamagotchi, which went on sale on November 23, 1996, at around 50 mm. It is the 39th device in the main series.
The screen is a 0.56-inch color LCD, the smallest ever used in a Tamagotchi. It has buttons on the left and right sides and keeps the egg shape and three-button design the series has used since the start.
Two years of shrinking a pet
Bandai said development took two years. The company explained that color screens drained the old button cell batteries too quickly, so since 2008 it had used alkaline batteries, which pushed a device to 68 mm long and 29 mm deep, or 137 percent of the original’s size.
The ring gets around that with a new charging structure that Bandai says is a first for the series, plus a shorter protection circuit for the USB connector. The whole thing has just 64 parts, 52 electronic and 12 plastic. Bandai’s latest device, Tamagotchi Paradise, has 116.
It also charges in a dedicated charger case, another series first. BigGo Finance reported that the battery lasts just under two days on a full charge.
The price is 7,700 yen with tax, or 7,000 yen before it. It comes in three color combinations: Pink & Pearl White, Light Blue & Metallic Gold, and Black & Metallic Silver, and each color has its own charger.
The official Tamagotchi listing said the ring covers the basic care and play activities. You can raise 30 characters depending on how you look after your pet, and secret characters may also show up. Bandai’s press release says the cast pulls from all three eras of the series, including Mametchi and Kuchipatchi from the original generation.
The ring comes in sizes 10 and 14, with an included spacer to adjust the fit. The set contains the ring, its charger, the spacer and a ball chain. A lithium-polymer battery is included, and Bandai listed it for ages 15 and older.
Bandai framed the design as a continuation of the series’ core idea, which it described in the press release as “いつでも一緒にいて、お世話を楽しめる” (“always together, and enjoy caring for it”). The format went from ball chain to neck strap to a wristwatch model in 2021, and now to a finger. BigGo Finance also reported that the ring was shown at Tokyo Toy Show 2026, which ran from August 27 to August 30.
Reservations and shipping
Demand showed up fast. On August 28, 2026, Tamagotchi’s official X account said the first reservation window would close that evening at 11 p.m., adding that reservations were “大変ご好評をいただいており” (receiving a very favorable response). A second round was set to open on August 29 at 9 a.m.
Bandai’s English listing warned that orders could end once the available production quantity was reached. The reservation period ran from August 27 to October 6, 2026, and the official product page now shows reservations closed.
The first shipment was scheduled for February 2027, FACT Magazine reported. Japan Today reported a second shipment group for April 2027, and the official Japanese listing also lists April 2027 for the second group, with no exact date for either.
