School board meetings have become pretty heinous events this year, as parents fight about everything from mask mandates to Critical Race Theory, spreading conspiracies and misinformation while schools to their best to keep kids in a safe and inclusive learning environment.
But a recent meeting of the Henrico School Board went viral for a whole other reason — and a much more lighthearted one, for a pleasant change.
Video of the meeting shows school board member Roscoe D. Cooper III calling out the names of people who signed up to speak, waiting for them to come up to the microphone. The only problem is that none of the people were real, and if the board had a little more of a junior high sensibility, they may have figured it out sooner.
Names like Phil McCracken, Eileen Dover, and Don Kedick were read out repeatedly to a quiet room as no one approached the mic.
Now the prank is drawing comparisons to the Simpsons for its juvenile humor — and obviously everyone means that in the best of ways. After a year of getting ready to cringe at the sight of viral school board meeting videos, the comic relief is undoubtedly welcome.
Of course, there were some complaints about the prank, but nothing Twitter couldn’t ratio. The kids have spent a year and a half in a pandemic — let them have their safe and harmless fun!
