CHEERIOS BOXES NOW COME WITH A ZIPLOC BAG INSIDE

Cheerios fans who fold the bag shut or clip it now have another option: Ziploc PantrySeal.

On October 27, 2026, General Mills announced that Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios are getting a resealable bag developed with Ziploc. The company calls it Cheerios with Ziploc PantrySeal, and it is available exclusively at Walmart.com starting that day.

General Mills describes it as the first resealable bag inside a traditional cereal box. The top of the bag partially opens to form what the press release calls “a convenient ‘pour spout,'” and then the bag seals back up inside the box.

The pitch is simple. The packaging is meant to be “easier to pour, reseal and help keep cereal fresher longer.”

The company says it did not come up with this on its own. Emilie Knox, vice president and business unit director for Cheerios, said in a statement quoted by Allrecipes that fans have been asking for it.

“General Mills has received letters, emails and DMs asking for an easier way to reseal a cereal box, and we decided it was time to partner with the ultimate freshness brand: Ziploc,”

General Mills says it gets hundreds of thousands of requests, comments and reactions every year about cereal freshness and resealable packaging. That is a lot of people with opinions about a stale breakfast.

Knox also said the product “takes a small, everyday cereal frustration and finally gives consumers the simple solution they’ve been asking for.”

People have been improvising for a long time. PEOPLE described the usual workarounds as folding the open bag, clipping it, or moving the cereal into a sealed container. A survey cited in that story found 90% of consumers use their own cereal freshness hacks.

Cheerios was first invented in 1941, and Ziploc introduced its zipper technology in 1968. The new product will be made exclusively in Buffalo, New York.

If your pantry has a chip clip permanently assigned to the Cheerios, keep an eye on the shelves. Walmart.com has the new bag first, and General Mills says it will reach retailers nationwide in the coming months.
