EARLESS RABBIT VAN GOGH GOT CROCHETED EARS FROM A FARMER
A rabbit born without ears got a handmade crocheted pair from a farmer who wanted him to feel included with his siblings.
Van Gogh, a gray rabbit at Smithills Open Farm in Bolton, England, starred in a TikTok video the farm posted on October 17, 2025, showing him trying on his new accessory.

“Knowing one of our farmers crochets on the side, we thought it was the perfect opportunity to make Van Gogh feel more included with his siblings,” farm spokesperson Caitlyn told SWNS.
Van Gogh was the only rabbit in his litter born without ears, People reported. He was about four months old at the time.
How the crocheted ears came together
The farmer who made them also crochets hair accessories as a side business. Yahoo Lifestyle reported that the side business involves hair scrunchies.
The ears are gray and pink and tie under his chin with a bow. In the video, Van Gogh appears first without them, then wearing them around his siblings.
The farm said it wanted Van Gogh to feel part of the group and to “experience what it was like having ears, too.”
The farm said he wears the ears only for a short time, for fun, and only when farmers are nearby to supervise. They are an accessory, not a medical device or a treatment.

What the farm knows about his missing ears
The farm has no explanation for why Van Gogh was born earless. It said his hearing is fine.
“He was born earless, but we don’t really know why. Luckily, it hasn’t affected his hearing, so it’s a purely aesthetic issue,” Caitlyn said.
Outer ears gather and direct sound, while hearing itself happens in the inner ear. In the wild, rabbits use their ears to detect predators, so an earless rabbit could be at a disadvantage.
Extra Globo noted that his name is also that of the Dutch painter.
How far the video traveled
By October 4, 2026, the farm’s TikTok video had more than 400,000 likes and nearly 3 million views, Metrópoles reported.
