NEWLYWEDS FOUND OUT THEY WERE CHILDHOOD SWEETHEARTS
A married couple discovered they were childhood sweethearts after one mom dug a 20-year-old holiday photo album out of her attic.
Heidi and Ed Savitt, then 26, thought they had met as students at Newcastle University in 2011. The truth about their first meeting went public on December 26, 2017, when the photos of them as kids came to light.
“None of us had any idea whatsoever that Heidi and Ed had met before university. But during that two-week holiday, they held hands most of the time,” Heidi’s mother, Kay Parker, told the New York Post.
The dinner that started it
It began at a dinner with both mothers, Kay and Ed’s mom, Fiona.
Kay brought up Heidi’s childhood “holiday boyfriend,” a boy called Ed. The two kids had spent time together on a family trip to Gumbet, Turkey, when Heidi was six, about 20 years earlier.
The name match was treated as a coincidence, and the conversation moved on.
A couple of weeks later, Kay found an old photo album in her attic. It was full of holiday snaps, and she recognized the boy named Ed as the man her daughter later married.
“I was screaming, it was just unreal,” Kay said.
She contacted Fiona. “Of course, I sent it to Fiona. Then loads more photographs came out,” Kay said.
Pictures of the two children together then spread among friends and family on social media.
“It’s crazy to think we could have got married, shared our lives together, but then never found out about this,” Heidi said.
How they met the second time
Their grown-up meeting came down to laundry.
At Newcastle University, Ed moved into a student house that Heidi had lived in before him. He couldn’t work the tumble dryer, found Heidi’s name on some mail and messaged her for help.
That message led to dating. “From the moment we started dating we were inseparable and knew we were going to be together forever,” Heidi said.
The wedding and the families
The couple married in the summer of 2017.
The Mirror reported that the wedding took place in the long gallery at Haddon Hall in Derbyshire. The paper also described the couple as London-based.
The Mirror reported that after the discovery, the two sets of parents became friends and regularly holidayed together.
