ANGEL REESE POINTED AT FAN AFTER SEX TOY HIT WNBA COURT

A WNBA sex toy toss stopped play in Los Angeles, and Angel Reese pointed out the alleged thrower from the Dream bench.

The green object landed on the floor during the Atlanta Dream’s 124-88 win over the Los Angeles Sparks at Crypto.com Arena on Thursday night, August 20, 2026. It came in the third quarter, with 2:59 left, as Sparks forward Jihyun Park got ready to shoot a free throw.

Reese stood up and called him out. “That’s him! That’s him! Get him! You see that?” she can be heard saying in game video, Complex reported.

The toy came down near Park and the Sparks bench, and play was halted. Sparks center Cameron Brink kicked it away before arena security removed it, USA TODAY reported.

Reese, sitting on the Dream bench, stood and pointed toward the person she identified as the thrower. Arena security then detained the spectator.

The game itself

The stoppage barely dented the Dream’s night. They set a franchise record for points in a game, ESPN reported.

Reese shot 9-for-9 from the field and picked up her 25th double-double of the season.

What happened next

LAPD officers met arena security that night about a detained trespass suspect. Police described him as a man in his mid-20s who allegedly trespassed and threw an item onto the court, and said he was issued a citation and released at the scene.

He was not publicly identified.

The WNBA planned to work with law enforcement to hold people accountable for throwing objects onto courts, a league source told The Athletic. USA TODAY reported that a person with knowledge of the league’s thinking said it would seek full prosecution of perpetrators.

A familiar green object

The throw echoed a string of similar incidents. The Athletic said green sex toys landed on WNBA courts in July 2025 during games in Atlanta, Chicago, New York, Phoenix and Los Angeles.

Those incidents were thought to be tied to a particular memecoin, though that link was not established as fact. Police arrested two people in connection with an alleged cryptocurrency money scheme linked to the 2025 incidents: Kaden Lopez in Phoenix and Delbert Carver in Georgia, The Athletic said.

A league source told The Athletic the spectator was indefinitely barred from WNBA, NBA and affiliated league games and events.
