EX-JPMORGAN EXEC HIT WITH $175 IN FINES OVER KNICKS BIN

A former JPMorgan Chase executive who allegedly dumped trash on a Manhattan sidewalk and walked off with a Knicks trash can got fined by the city.

Sources identified the woman as Angie Báez, 40, and she was issued a pair of sanitation summonses totaling $175 after the orange-and-blue bin came back to the Department of Sanitation on Wednesday morning, June 24, 2026, the New York Post reported.

Department spokesperson Vincent Gragnani confirmed the returned bin was the one everybody had seen online.

“Yes, this is the same basket that was in the video,” Gragnani said in a statement to the Post.

Video that caught her on camera showed Báez emptying the basket onto the sidewalk and walking away with it during the Knicks’ championship celebrations, Banking Dive reported. Additional footage reportedly showed her carrying the basket on the subway.

How the bin came back

The basket ended up at the department’s Worth Street headquarters, where staff photographed it.

Gragnani said the department did not touch up the picture, and it did make one change first.

“It was returned to us, we removed two stickers from it, and took the photo ourselves at our Worth Street Headquarters – no AI used,” he said.

The department then handed Báez a $75 summons for littering and a $100 summons for impeding Department of Sanitation operations.

A department spokesperson told Fox News the penalties could not have been steeper. “These fines are the maximum allowed by law for first offenses,” the spokesperson said.

The department did not hold back in a statement either. It called dumping trash on the street and taking public property “illegal” and “antisocial,” and said doing both on camera was “incredibly stupid.”

Sanitation officials said they had no estimate for the cleanup costs tied to the dumped trash.

What happened next

JPMorgan Chase confirmed Báez was no longer employed at the bank. “This employee is no longer with the company,” a bank spokesperson said in a statement to the Post and NBC News.

Snopes reported that the bank did not say whether she was fired or whether her departure was connected to the incident.

Banking Dive reported her JPMorgan title was executive director of community and industry engagement for Card and Connected Commerce. Snopes reported that her most recent role at the bank was not a DEI job, though she had held DEI-related roles at other companies.

The summonses are administrative sanitation penalties. Snopes reported that the NYPD had no complaint report on file about the videos.

The Knicks-themed baskets were produced and distributed by the department and the clothing brand Only NY. Snopes reported that the department was not aware of any other Knicks-themed baskets being stolen.

On June 26, 2026, NYC Sanitation announced a giveaway of five orange-and-blue litter baskets. The department’s post joked that there was “no need to Knick a basket,” Baller Alert reported.
