8-YEAR-OLD DRESSED AS HER TEACHER FOR SUPERHERO DAY
An Arkansas second-grader dressed as her teacher for Superhero Day, and the teacher said her heart completely melted.
Caroline Carlson, 8, picked Jaime Deigh as her hero on March 3, 2023, the final day of spirit week at R.E. Baker Elementary in Bentonville, Arkansas. Deigh teaches second grade at the school.
The week had a theme for every day, including “Super Comfy Day,” “Super Kind Day,” “Super Bright Day” and “Super Silly Day.” KATU reported that students were asked to come as their favorite superhero.
“All week Caroline was saying, ‘I want to be like Miss Deigh. She is a superhero,'” Caroline’s mother, Cortney Carlson, told Fox News Digital.
How the day unfolded
Caroline asked her mom to curl her hair so it would match her teacher’s.
The New York Post reported that Cortney Carlson and Deigh coordinated the outfits. Both wore R.E. Baker Elementary T-shirts, denim jackets, jeans and tennis shoes. My Modern Met reported that both shirts were pink.
Deigh described the moment Caroline walked in. “We immediately grabbed hands and gave each other a hug, and then I just wanted to show everybody,” she told the Post.
The two then walked around the school together, and the Post reported that faculty appeared to love seeing them side by side.
“My heart completely melted,” Deigh told FOX Television Stations, in comments published by LiveNOW from FOX.
She said the class had read “Almost Super” by Marion Jensen during the week. She also said students usually show up as fictional heroes such as Spider-Man, Batman or Wonder Woman.
Deigh told LiveNOW from FOX that in her 19 years of teaching, no student had ever done this for her before. She told Fox News Digital she had taught at R.E. Baker for eight years.
What happened next
Bentonville Schools shared the moment on Facebook the same day, March 3, 2023. The district called it “the feel-good Friday moment we all need today!” CafeMom reported.
The post described Caroline as dressing like her teacher, Jaime Deigh, for the closing superhero theme of the week.
“Forget the cape. Throw on a jean jacket and change the world wherever you are today, Bentonville!” the school wrote.
The post featured Caroline and Deigh together.
