WIDOWED COUPLE GOT A DOUBLE RAINBOW AT THEIR BEACH WEDDING

Two widowed people who met in a Facebook group had a double rainbow wedding on a North Carolina beach.

Michelle and Scott Ellermets married on September 7, 2024, in North Carolina’s Outer Banks. The ceremony was outdoors, right on the sand.

“It was just a nice confirmation,” Scott told PEOPLE.

Rain had threatened the ceremony, PEOPLE reported. The sun came out about 10 minutes before it began.

How they found each other

Scott and Michelle both belonged to a Facebook group for widowed people in the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia area. Scott noticed Michelle in the group and discovered she was friends with his sister on Facebook.

Both had lost a spouse after more than two decades of marriage. Scott’s first wife, Lisa, died in June 2023. Michelle’s first husband, Jonathan, died in January 2023.

Michelle was 50 and Scott was 59 when they told their story on Good Morning America, Yahoo Life reported.

The rainbows arrive

A first rainbow showed up just after the ceremony. A second appeared while photographer Chelsea Schaefer was taking pictures.

The newlyweds did not notice the second one until Schaefer pointed it out. She paused the wedding portraits to photograph the couple beneath the rainbows and captured video of the moment.

“The rainbow stayed for about 40 minutes,” Schaefer told TODAY.

“I’ve never witnessed anything like it; it was truly magnificent,” she said.

Schaefer’s TikTok video of the wedding gained attention online, and Good Morning America also covered the couple’s story.

“Their blessing”

For the couple, the rainbows carried a deeper meaning. Scott described the sight as “their blessing,” a nod to Lisa and Jonathan.

Michelle said the couple believed their late spouses would want them to be happy. “We feel they would want us to be happy,” she told TODAY.

She also spoke about faith. “We really feel like God led us here and brought us together,” Michelle told PEOPLE. “The rainbows almost seemed to be a confirmation of that.”
