DAD KEPT DAUGHTER’S PAPER TIE 24 YEARS, WORE IT AT WEDDING
A dad kept his daughter’s paper tie for 24 years, then wore it to her wedding.
Glenn Becker surprised his daughter, Megan Becker-Towns, of Appleton, Wisconsin, by wearing the tie she made him at five to her wedding in October 2021, Metro reported.

Megan made the tie in an art class in 1997 as a Father’s Day gift. She used paper and crayons, and the tie was then laminated.
Glenn joked that he would keep it and wear it to her wedding. “When I was little, I would get excited again that he liked it so much he would wear it to my wedding,” Megan said.

A joke that outlasted her teenage years
Glenn hung the tie over his bedroom mirror, next to family photos. It stayed there for years.
Megan, an email marketing specialist who was 29 when she shared the story, admitted the joke wore thin as she got older.

“When I was a teenager I thought it was silly and would roll my eyes at him,” she said.
Glenn also had a reputation. “My dad is a big jokester, he always has been,” Megan said.
The tie disappears
Glenn and Jeannette Becker moved homes in 2018. Afterward, Megan noticed the tie was no longer in its usual spot.
She asked her dad where it went. Glenn told her it had been lost in the move.
“I was a little disappointed, but I did not think I was being pranked,” Megan said.
The tie slipped out of her mind. Then she and her now-husband, Travis Towns, got engaged the following year.
What happened at the wedding
Glenn had not lost the tie at all. He had hidden it in his toolbox.
On the wedding day, he briefly left before the father-daughter dance. When he came back, he was wearing the tie.
Megan did not catch on right away. She first noticed that her father had changed his shoes, and she realized what he had done only when he returned to the dance floor.
Then she saw the tie, and she cried.
Glenn had kept the tie for 24 years before putting it on, Onedio reported.
Megan said she decided to share the moment because it had landed so hard with the people in the room.
“So many people were touched at my wedding, I thought other people would be as well,” she said. “I just want to share what my dad did for me.”
