BOY, 4, BROUGHT HIS SISTER, 2, TO PRESCHOOL SHOW AND TELL

A 4-year-old brought his 2-year-old sister to preschool show and tell as the thing he’s grateful for, and his mom cried.

Daniel’s class was encouraged in November to bring in something they were grateful for, and he knew exactly what he wanted to bring: his little sister, Sophia. His mother, Stephanie DeRoss, 30, filmed the whole presentation.

“Honestly, I wept the entire time I was filming them,” DeRoss told People.

Daniel was 4 and Sophia was 2 when DeRoss described the moment.

It started with a question from Daniel, who asked whether he could bring Sophia to school for the presentation.

DeRoss said she expected a no.

“I reached out to his teacher for permission, almost convinced it wouldn’t be permitted, but I was pleasantly surprised when she agreed. He was over the moon,” she said.

Inside the classroom

In the video, the siblings appear in Daniel’s classroom, answer questions from his classmates and hug.

Daniel kept his introduction simple. He told the class that he and Sophia both liked playing with cars. He said yogurt was Sophia’s favorite food.

He also shared that the two of them liked sleeping in their mom’s bed.

The questions came fast. “All the kids were eager to raise their hands and ask questions,” DeRoss said.

The hugging, she said, was nothing new at home.

“They have always been incredibly affectionate, despite the occasional squabble,” DeRoss said.

She said Daniel takes his big-brother job seriously. “My son relishes the role of her protector and looks for every opportunity to defend her,” she said.

Watching the two of them in front of the class, she said, hit her hard. “I felt immense gratitude witnessing their love for one another,” DeRoss said.

She said she hopes the moment stays a cherished memory for both kids.

What happened next

The clip found an audience online. A Reddit post on r/BeAmazed described Daniel as proudly introducing Sophia as what he was most thankful for.

In her People interview on January 28, 2026, DeRoss said the video’s popularity caught her off guard. “[I was] incredibly surprised! It brought me joy to share this heartfelt experience with the world,” she said.
