A North Carolina tattoo artist is finding viral fame on TikTok for his hyper-realistic tattoos.
Jonathan Dump of Fayetteville, N.C. says that he has always “had a passion for art” and the ink and needle of a tattoo artist have been his choice for many years.
Jon, as he is known, has been at “Best Ink of Fayetteville” for almost ten years and in that time, he has worked hard to perfect his favorite styles.
“I think for the most part portraits and realism is where my focus is,” he told ABC11.
And customers such as Zach McClanahan have been loyal to Jon for years.
“It’s been great work. Every time I come in with a piece or an idea, I just give it to Jon and he makes it happen,” Mcclanahan said.
But it was on TikTok where Jon has made his mark (pun intended).
He posts his hyper-realistic tattoo portraits and has gone viral with millions of eyes on his work.
With his portraits of famous musicians and other celebrities, he’s amassed a large fan base. Even some of the other artists themselves!
He started posting his videos during the pandemic and they began to take off in November.
He’s accumulated over 7.5 million likes and over half a million followers.
“I am very shocked. If you would’ve asked me ten years ago, when I started tattooing, if this would be going on, I would tell you that you were crazy,” Jon joked.
And now he’s getting clients from far away! “I did a portrait of Garth Brooks, and (the client) flew in from Mississippi,” he said.
Jon said his little taste of fame and worldwide attention wouldn’t change him at all; instead, he said he is honored to represent Fayetteville.
“Just proud to, you know, keep it on the map. I know everybody’s put it on the map; I’m proud to keep it on the map,” he concluded.
