Of course, this would usually be fine, but for some users, The Weeknd’s tweet appeared at the same time that news of Russia’s attack on Ukraine broke. This prompted many users to respond to the tweet, calling out the singer for his less than ideal timing.

Some Twitter users shared screenshots of their timelines and notifications to prove their points.

This week, several explosions rocked Ukraine, as Russia invaded the country, targeting airports, residential areas, and points of military operations. As the crisis worsens, millions of lives are at risk and countless Ukrainians are now being forced to flee their homes in search of safety.

This attack and everything else happening in the world made The Weeknd’s tweet feel flippant to many users.

It’s still unclear what the singer’s announcement was supposed to be, but fans thought it could have something to do with the upcoming HBO show he’s producing.

He released an album, Dawn FM, on January 7.
