A viral video shows yet another instance of police brutality. A Black man, who observers stated was attempting to flag down police for a nearby car crash, wound up being tased by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies in the middle of the street.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has launched an investigation into the filmed encounter.
The event’s footage was posted on Twitter, showing the unnamed man surrounded by four deputies just before he is tased and falls to the ground.
Sheriff’s officials confirmed a crash was called in at 9:47 a.m. near 104th Street and Van Ness Avenue in Inglewood. When they arrived, the man ran into the road and blocked the patrol car.
“Deputies exited their patrol vehicle and contacted the individual,” the department per a statement. “Despite their de-escalation efforts, the individual became hostile, and a use of force occurred.”
After the man falls to the ground, a second man, apparently related to the victim, runs out to confront the deputies.
“Hey, he’s not in right mind!” the man yells, intimated the tased man was in the midst of a mental health event. “He’s not in his right f—king mind!”
One deputy is shown attempting to pull the man back, but the struggle immediately turns physical, and the second man is tackled in the street.
Sheriff’s officials later stated the second man “ignored requests for him to back up” and “struggled with the deputies and was taken into custody.”
Both men were hospitalized for treatment. Twitter was vocal in its disgust of the situation.
