The most shocking thing about Rudy Giuliani’s law license getting suspended is that he actually has a law license and not just a piece of construction paper with the words “LAW MAN” scrawled on it in ketchup. But the former mayor and Donald Trump lawyer was ruled to have made “demonstrably false and misleading statements” by a New York court, the New York Times reports, while fighting on Donald Trump’s behalf to overturn the election of Joe Biden. And now he can’t practice law, if “practicing” is what you can call what he was doing before.
The suspension is temporary, and the 33-page decision from the appellate court said Giuliani’s behavior in those months created an “immediate threat” and that he was part of the inciting force behind the Capitol riots in January.
“The seriousness of respondent’s uncontroverted misconduct cannot be overstated. This country is being torn apart by continued attacks on the legitimacy of the 2020 election and of our current president, Joseph R. Biden,” the decision read.
“We conclude that there is uncontroverted evidence that respondent communicated demonstrably false and misleading statements to courts, lawmakers and the public at large in his capacity as lawyer for former President Donald J. Trump and the Trump campaign in connection with Trump’s failed effort at re-election in 2020.”
Though it’s temporary, it will likely become permanent. You can tell from their language that they’re not messing around. His own lawyers say they’re not either, according to the Daily Dot.
“This is unprecedented as we believe that our client does not pose a present danger to the public interest,” they responded to the court’s rulings. “We believe that once the issues are fully explored at a hearing, Mr. Giuliani will be reinstated as a valued member of the legal profession that he has served so well in his many capacities for so many years.”
But Giuliani’s trials are not over. He’s still be sued by Dominion Voting Systems for defamation and being investigated for that whole Ukraine ‘quid pro quo’ situation. This does seem to be the downfall of Rudy Giuliani and people on Twitter are very amused:
