The convo was originally shared by Facebook user Kar-Lee Patterson, who shared screenshots of the page, one of the alleged moderator's profiles, and the conversation itself.
An unidentified user contacts a moderator named "Melanie" to check in, writing, "I just wanted to reach out and let you know there are some men and fake accounts in here. I got some disturbing messages from one and wanted to let you know."
Melanie replies, "Yes thank you for letting me know. Don't worry about those profiles."
The other moderator answers, "But that's pretty creepy tho no?"
"Listen, those profiles pay good money to be in the group," Melanie responds. "I would appreciate if you stepped back."
Then Melanie removed the questioner from moderation status and blocked her, saying "sorry it didn't work out."
One of the women identified as running the group is Heather Hyde Wargo, who seems to be a different person from Melanie, though many are assuming she knew that there were accounts paying to be a part of the private group for their own pleasure.
Wargo posted an update on Wednesday, saying Melanie was removed from the group and that the rest of the mods were "combing through every single member to make sure that the people in the group are who they claim to be."
Women in the group seem to be outraged, as they should be, and many are taking it as a reminder that you have to be very careful about what you post online.
It sucks that we have to, especially when the violation is really so many other people's responsibility.
