There has been a lot of talk on the internet recently about Karens and what it means to be a Karen. Rude —more often than not white women — who are inconsiderate and think only of themselves. One TikTok mom flipped the script and the internet is dubbing her the “Anti-Karen.”
TikTok user @Binky_Bell posted a video of herself, which seemingly starts out showing off how spoiled her kids are, displaying their gaming consoles, TVs, etc. It seems like she was going to imply that if they don’t behave and keep their grades up, she would smash their entertainment devices. But instead, she shows herself talking to her kids through positive reinforcement and talks about setting technological boundaries.
“So when their grades start to slip because of the video games, you know what I gotta do?” she says as she stands in front of the TV with a hammer, “I have to sit down and have a conversation with them.”
She continues, “I have to tell them that I noticed their grades dropped, and I need to see if there’s something going on with them mentally or emotionally. I have to have a conversation with them and teach them about healthy boundaries when it comes to technology. I have to stop blaming video games for things that I have the power to control in my own home.”
She shares on her LinkedIn that she is a podcaster at Paradigm Shift Parenting, which she explains in the description is where “create[s] content to motivate and inspire women to be active, intentional creators of their lives and push back against the narrative that mothering has to be difficult.”
The TikTok video has garnered many positive comments, where people are thanking Bell for treating her kids with respect. “THANK YOU! So refreshing to see sane parents who treat their children like people with complex emotions,” one user commented.
Another person replied, “This is the type of mom we all need.”
