Desperate to attempt to escape all the bad publicity that’s hounded Facebook for years and recently reached a peak, Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook Inc is officially rebranding to Meta Platforms Inc — Meta, conversationally.
Of course, Zuck didn’t say that’s why the company is rebranding, but the timing is far too coincidental. Journalists from multiple major publications worked together recently to come up with the Facebook Papers, which revealed damning information from inside the company about the actual threat it poses to both the United States and the international community.
But a little name change probably isn’t going to do much towards rehabbing the negative reputation Facebook has spent years building for itself. It certainly hasn’t garnered any favor with Twitter users, who were beyond ready to make jokes at Facebook — excuse me, Meta’s — expense.
We’ve compiled some of the best ones for your own personal laughs, but as writer Joshua Rivera points out, jokes are good, but being “openly hostile to facebook’s bullsh*t” might be even better.
