Gen Z is apparently waging war on the side part, and the generational divide between them and millennials has never been more apparent.
TikTok zoomers have been posting videos making fun of millennial hairstyles, including the side part for a while now. And yes, okay, maybe the extreme emo side part was a CHOICE and one that we should all move away from as vaguely respectable adults, but the teens seem to be hating on regular side parts just as hard.
There are obviously tons of ways in which millennials and zoomers exhibit our differences, but this one…this one may be a step too far.
Some have even claimed it’s because Republicans wear their hair to the side and Democrats wear it parted in the middle, although a cursory Google image search suggests there may not be much to that theory.
“I don’t think that there is a single person who looks better with a side part than they do a middle part,” insists @ladygleep, who originated a challenge encouraging TikTokers to film videos showing off their side part before switching it up to “a beautiful, luscious, elegant, gracious middle part.”
And while some of the teens don’t seem to be entirely here for the side part hatred, the comments on videos taking part in the challenge almost always lean towards middle part superiority.
But honestly let’s show up for the TikTokers who really did prove @ladygleep wrong, turning stylish short haircuts into Karen ‘dos.
If there’s one thing every generation learns, it’s that fashion and style choices always come back around. So even if zoomers do end up successfully phasing out the side part as a viable hairstyle option, their kids will almost definitely be back to dramatically flinging that hair over to one side.
