Advent calendars are special calendars typically used as countdowns for Christmas. The calendars are big and beautiful with each number printed on a little window or door. Opening each window or door reveals a small gift, which usually ranges from a toy to something chocolatey and delicious.
This year, in honor of the 100th anniversary of N°5, Chanel released an advent calendar featuring miniature products and other items.
Unfortunately, the calendar fell short for many, including TikTok user Elise Harmon.
Harmon, who is a longtime fan of the brand, decided to splurge on the limited-edition advent calendar, which costs $825.
The TikTok influencer then shared a series of unboxing videos to the platform, documenting her thoughts.
The first video, which has since gone viral, kicks off with a very excited Harmon getting ready to unbox her lavish purchase.
“Am I crazy? Absolutely, but I’ve never seen a Chanel advent calendar, so let’s see if it’s worth the hype,” she said. “We’ll give them a 10/10 for packaging.”
However, as Harmon began revealing the items hidden within the calendar, her excitement quickly fizzled.
The first thing she noticed was that the calendar started with day five, rather than day one. But Harmon just assumed this was in honor of the brand’s fragrance, Chanel No. 5. She then started with day nine as it looked the most “promising.”
But despite being a decent size, Harmon opened the day nine box to reveal a sheet of stickers.
“This is a joke! Stickers?” she exclaimed.
Harmon’s next pick was box number seven and she was pleased to see the brand’s popular hand cream. That joy was short-lived as box number eight brought Harmon a dust bag—with nothing in it.
“I can’t make this up,” she said.
She then skips to day 30 to find a mini jar of body cream. Harmon acknowledged how cute the jar was before adding that it’s barely enough to cover one arm.
In other videos, Harmon revealed that box number 24 held a tiny flipbook, box 20 had the brand’s Rogue Allure lipstick, and box number 18 had more stickers or temporary tattoos.
While chatting with BuzzFeed, she expressed her disappointment surrounding the overall experience.
“I assumed that the calendar would include the fragrance along with beauty products and other useable items,” she said. “I was deeply disappointed to find that the products inside didn’t even come close to the cost of the advent calendar itself.”
Like Harmon, her followers were also disappointed about the calendar and many took to social media.
Harmon later alleged that she was blocked by Chanel, but that has been disputed by a brand rep.
