Taylor Swift doesn’t seem to be particularly well-versed in the world of the internet and what should, and most definitely should not, be posted online. Namely: her feet. She isn’t a frequent TikTok poster, but in her sixth TikTok from a little over a year ago, the billboard-topping singer framed herself sitting on the floor playing the guitar with her bare feet on full display, much to the dismay of her fans.
One TikToker commented, “My girl, why are u showing ur feet for FREE???” The comment has more than 73.8k likes, while another commenter said, “SHES ALWAYS SHOWING HER FEET” with over 82.3k likes.
Fans of the singer, known as “Swifties,” have taken note of just how often the singer shows off her bare feet, from photos on Twitter and Instagram to the music video for “Anti-Hero” when she steps on the scale in a message that critics deemed to be fatphobic. (Swift’s team later removed the scale from the music video.)
Much like a number of celebrities have OnlyFans accounts, including Cardi B and Carmen Electra, as an extra source of income, Swift fans have argued over the years that the musician could make a pretty penny selling feet pics for the foot fetishists of the internet.
While fans have noted the prominence of her bare feet of late, it isn’t out of place for the country-singer-turned-pop-star. Even in her debut country album, back when she was a minor, there were photos of her feet on the CD, as well as in a number of her notable music videos such as “Shake It Off” and “Our Song.”
Most of the furor over Swift’s feet pics seems to come from Gen Z fans. According to Swiftie Maya Luz, she thinks it’s a “weird” generational thing, though plenty of Millenials know better than to post photos of their feet online.
“I don’t think she knows the way feet are sexualized on the internet these days,” Luz told Buzzfeed News. “Very millennial of her. I probably wouldn’t post my feet on social media.”
“Taylor, Blondie, please put some socks on,” the fan continued. “There are creepy people on the internet.”
Luz went on to tell Buzzfeed that one of Swift’s most memorable TikToks, to her, was the one where the musician was promoting a new recording of her 2012 CD, Red. While Swift is clothed from wrist to ankle, she isn’t wearing any shoes, showing off her bright red nail polish on her toes. Even on that TikTok, a fan commented, “Can’t believe you’re posting your feet for free.”
Folks on Twitter just can’t stop talking about her feet, either.
While everyone seems to be concerned about Swift sharing photos and videos of her feet, the musician doesn’t seem particularly bothered by the comments. Maybe she just enjoys being barefoot?
