I always find it a massively disrespectful of the family unit when this happens, as well as it being a huge inconvenience all round. A wedding is about bride and groom, but also about your guest experience, that’s why you invite them. It just comes across a pretentious.

If you dislike children and that’s your worst nightmare then you have to be true to yourself if you think you won’t enjoy your day with lots of children there. However, if you plan on having children yourself you might want to apply a more balanced approach.

42 years ago we went that route, and two of our best friends decided not to come to our wedding. We've regretted it ever since, the more so since we had our own children and realised how we would feel if we got a similar invitation.

Flip this. If your such a good friend then you would understand their predicament and allow the child to come. If you don’t, and they don’t come, you don’t regard them as so.

Your wedding so its your rules. How would you feel if one of your close family members politely rejected your invitation as they couldn’t bring their child? It works both ways I suppose but then don’t be upset if someone decides not to come because of it

Feel terrible that I resent their wedding day so much, but you can’t help what you feel. I’d never subject parents of a young baby to having to make that decision. I’d want all my guests to be as happy as possible.
