Singer-songwriter Michelle Branch was been arrested after she allegedly assaulted her husband, Patrick Carney, at their Nashville residence.
According to reports, the 39-year-old musician was arrested by Nashville police and removed from her home in handcuffs around 2 in the morning on Thursday, August 11 after allegedly slapping her drummer husband in the face “one to two times,” according to court documents obtained by TMZ.
In the documents, it was also stated that there were no visible injuries present on Carney’s body. The pair’s argument apparently started at another location, and they continued to fight until they arrived at home.
The assault came the same day as news that the couple has decided to separate because Carney was having an affair, according to a since-deleted tweet from Branch, with his manager while she was at home caring for their newborn daughter.
While the tweet was deleted, though not before plenty of people saw and screenshotted it, Michelle Branch did speak to ET about her thoughts and how she was feeling after discovering her husband’s affair.
“To say that I am totally devastated doesn’t even come close to describing how I feel for myself and for my family,” Branch told ET in a statement on Friday. “The rug has been completely pulled from underneath me and now I must figure out how to move forward. With such small children, I ask for privacy and kindness.”
The two have been married for three years, having met during production of “Hopeless Romantic,” the singer-songwriter’s third studio album.
Michelle Branch and Patrick Carney have two children together, Rhys James, soon to be 4, and Willie, who is only six months old. Branch also has a teenaged daughter, Owen Isabelle, whom she had with her ex-husband, Teddy Landau.
Branch was originally held on a $1,000 bond but was reportedly released because she is currently breastfeeding baby Willie. She is scheduled to appear in court on November 7 following the altercation.
