It looks like Kanye West has had a change of heart. In a statement shared with Hollywood Unlocked, the rapper said: “I’ve asked my team to expedite the dissolution of my marriage to Kim so I can put my entire attention into our beautiful children.”
It’s been over a year since Kim Kardashian filed for divorce from West, citing “irreconcilable differences.”
West did not acknowledge the divorce until last November, saying he had “never seen the divorce papers.” In the meantime, Kardashian had moved on, dating comedian Pete Davidson. Kanye made a series of very public statements imploring Kardashian to take him back, as well as seemingly threatening Davidson.
West eventually acknowledged this “harassment,” writing in a now-deleted post: “I know sharing screen shots was jarring and came off as harassing Kim. I take accountability. I’m still learning in real time. I don’t have all the answers. To be good leader is to be a good listener.”
In December, Kardashian told the court that West had failed to respond to repeated requests to “terminate” their marriage. Last month, Kanye’s team responded by denying the request, claiming that Kim’s filing did not “poivide the protections necessary for an early termination of marital status.”
Kardashian recently responded that West had put her through “emotional distress” and that their marriage being officially ended in court would “help Kanye accept” that their relationship is over and lead to coparent “peacefully.”
“I very much desire to be divorced. Kanye has been putting a lot of misinformation regarding our private matters and co-parenting on social media, which has created emotional distress,” Kardashian said. “While I wish our marriage would have succeeded, I have come to the realization that there is no way to repair our marriage. Kanye does not agree but at least it appears that he has come to the realization that I want to end our marriage, even if he does not.
Following a court hearing today, Kardashian is officially a single woman, even as the divorce continues. She was declared legally single by a judge and has dropped the “West” from her name, returning to being Kim Kardashian.
Kardashian and West share 8-year-old North, 6-year-old Saint, 4-year-old Chicago, and 2-year-old Psalm.
