Kate Moss and Johnny Depp’s relationship in the ’90s made the front pages of many a gossip magazine.
The supermodel did a breakdown of her 20 more memorable looks for British Vogue’s YouTube channel. The model stopped at the photo of her at the 1999 CFDA Awards to share the bizarre origins of one of Depp’s old gifts to her.
In the photo, Moss is wearing a white silk spaghetti strap dress, and she told the camera that it was her “favorite dress” that was gifted to her by designer John Galliano.
“This is the John Galliano dress that I have lost, if anyone has it out there please return it to me — it’s my favorite dress,” the supermodel said. “He gave it to me for my 21st birthday.”
She then shared the extremely strange way that Depp gifted her the diamond necklace in the photograph.
“And that diamond necklace, Johnny gave me,” Moss said. “They were the first diamonds I ever owned. He pulled them out of the crack of his ass.”
She might have realized that the statement was a weird one, as she added more to the story, saying that they were out to dinner when Depp said, “I’ve got something in my bum. Can you have a look?”
“I was like, ‘What?’ and put my hand down his trousers and I pulled out a diamond necklace,” the supermodel said. “That diamond necklace.”
The two were introduced by Vanity Fair writer George Wayne at Café Tabac in New York City in 1994 and started dating shortly after.
In 2019, Wayne told The Face, “I said, ’Kate, this is Johnny. Johnny, this is Kate.’ And that was the end of it. I didn’t think they would go on to destroy five-star hotel rooms across the globe for the next two years.”
One of the cases the writer was referring to was when Depp was arrested in 1994 for destroying his room at the Mark Hotel in Manhattan, which police suspected occurred after the couple had a fight while Depp was drunk.
In a 1998 interview with Hello! Magazine, Depp said of the end of their relationship, “I have been so stupid because we had so much going for our relationship. I’m the one who has to take responsibility for what happened – I was difficult to get on with, I let my work get in the way and I didn’t give her the attention I should have done.”
The supermodel testified during the highly-publicized defamation trial between Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard to deny the longstanding rumor that he pushed her down a flight of stairs while they dated in the 90s.
