Jada Pinkett Smith has spoken out for the first time since the infamous Oscars slap.
Pinkett Smith’s husband, Will Smith, created a chaotic scene when he slapped presenter Chris Rock in response to a comment Rock made about Pinkett Smith’s hair. Pinkett Smith has spoken openly about being diagnosed with alopecia — an autoimmune disorder that causes hair loss— and she decided to shave her head to manage the condition.

“This is a season for healing and I’m here for it,” she said in an Instagram post.

Smith later apologized for hitting Rock, saying that his actions were inexcusable.
When the slap happened, it seemed like it broke the internet. Ever since, social media users have been divided about how to discuss the situation, with some defending Smith’s actions and others calling him out for overreacting. The incident has brought up conversations about race, disability, toxic masculinity, and the stress of Oscar season.
Healing definitely seems like a good thing to focus on.
