Many TikTok users were shocked by how little control flight attendants have over their attire.

Kamalani said, “What most people don’t know is that you have to follow a super strict guideline when you’re a flight attendant. Your airline gets to dictate everything from head to toe on the way you look.”

Everything from head to toe is carefully curated and goes through an approval process—including nails, hair, lips and makeup, shoes, and handbags.

She shared that the airline she worked for even had a department dedicated to ensuring that the attendants were abiding by the rules.

Kamalani compared the wardrobe enforcement to being military-levels of strict and said that employees could get in huge trouble if they fail to follow the dress code.

“You can’t have any tattoos showing, the length of your dress or your uniform, the way you tie your bow — it was super strict,” she said. “I swear that I felt like I was in the military because of how strict they are.”

Other flight attendants shared their frustrations in the comments.
