After a number of pop-up trials, Marshall “Eminem” Mathers has opened his first official Mom’s Spaghetti restaurant in downtown Detroit and to celebrate, the rapper spent a day in customer service. Spaghetti lovers were able to come up to the window and buy a $9 container of pasta from the man himself, and apparently, hundreds of people stood online to do it. And it was only $3-$5 more for meat or vegan meatballs!
I don’t know how passionate Eminem is about selling spaghetti, but it is a very smart moment of synergy, as the “Mom’s Spaghetti” restaurant is a reference to a lyric in his hit 2002 single “Lose Yourself.”
It goes, “His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy / There’s vomit on his sweater already, mom’s spaghetti.”
You wouldn’t think a reference to vomit would be such a huge selling point, but whatever works!
LadBible reports that Eminem’s manager Paul Rosenberg said in a statement, “We’ve had a lot of fun putting this project together with the folks at Union Joints, and the response from fans has been overwhelmingly positive. The previous pop-ups were really a test for us to determine whether there was enthusiasm for a regularly-occurring Mom’s Spaghetti spot that would be open all year long.
“We are really pleased to announce the arrival of the walk-up restaurant and adjacent upstairs store, called The Trailer, where fans can experience a uniquely-curated environment and obtain merch and other items from Eminem and his new pasta operation.”
Spaghetti is delicious, but we will have to see if people are lining up to buy it when they’re not being served by a famous rapper. Did you know that for nine dollars, you can buy enough spaghetti to last a week at the grocery store?
