Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are engaged again! The actress and singer shared intimate details of the proposal, saying that she was in the bubble bath when Affleck popped the question.
“Saturday night while at my favorite place on earth (in the bubble bath), my beautiful love got on one knee and proposed,” the singer wrote in her “On the JLo” newsletter.
She said she was “taken totally off guard” by the gesture.
“[I] just looked in his eyes smiling and crying at the same time trying hard to get my head around the fact that after 20 years this was happening all over again,” she explained.
Lopez, 52, said she was crying when Affleck, 49, asked her to marry him.
“I was quite literally speechless and he said, ‘Is that a yes?’ I said ‘YES of course that’s a YES.'”
“I was smiling so big and tears were coming down my face, feeling so incredibly happy and whole. It was nothing fancy at all, but it was the most romantic thing I could’ve ever imagined,” she said.
“Just a quiet Saturday night at home, two people promising to always be there for each other. Two very lucky people. Who got a second chance at true love,” Lopez said about her and Affleck’s rekindled romance.
Affleck and Lopez were engaged for the first time in 2002 with a pink diamond. This time, the diamond was green — a special color for Lopez.
“He hands me a ring and he says it’s a green diamond. [Green is] my favorite color, it’s also my lucky color.”
“Obviously it’ll be my lucky color forever now. It means so much when somebody thinks about you and loves you and sees you. And it was just the most perfect moment. I feel so lucky. It’s not often you get a second chance at true love,” she said.
Lopez and Affleck called off their first engagement after being scrutinized by the media. However, this time they’re in different places in their lives.
“There was this other thing happening where we were being criticized, and it really destroyed our relationship from the inside out, because we were just too young to understand at that time what were really the most important things in life,” Lopez told Rolling Stone in an interview.
“We’re older now, we’re smarter, we have more experience, we’re at different places in our lives, we have kids now, and we have to be very conscious of those things. We’re so protective because it is such a beautiful time for all of us.”
