A TikToker named Jaycee Elizabeth received a lot of criticism after sharing a short clip of her brother watching her give birth to her second child. At the time of the delivery, her brother was only 13-years-old, but he apparently requested to be in the hospital room.
The clip focuses on the teen in the moments before and after the baby came out. She wrote over the image, “Throwback to when my younger brother asked to watch me give birth. He was so concerned the entire time. He watched the entire two hours I pushed and said he didn’t know extra stuff came out with the baby!”
He looks very serious and concerned:
And then he looked shocked to discover babies don’t come out pre-washed:
She captioned the TikTok, “I’m so proud my brother wanted to watch his nephew being born, and he did better than some grown men!”
The scene has been viewed on TikTok over 13 million times as a debate raged in the comments about whether or not it’s okay for a teenager or a brother or anybody with eyes to see you give birth. A lot of people seemed to think it was weird that he glimpsed Jaycee’s hoo-ha while she expelled a child from it while others say anyone sexualizing that is the weird one:
Jaycee posted a response video after saying she was temporarily banned, maybe because people were reporting the video. She says she didn’t expect it to go viral and that there were about ten people in the room including hospital staff. About her brother, she said, “He was 13, almost 14, and that video is almost two years old, so for those of you who think it’s weird or thinks that we shouldn’t have. It’s done. There’s no turning back. It’s also OK that you think that it’s weird. You don’t have to do that by any means. No, my brother didn’t have a bullseye view.”
She continued, “He was off towards the front right of the bed, and as you can see, he was standing right next to the door, so had he wanted to leave at any time, he easily could have. I didn’t force him to be there, he genuinely asked, and me and my mum agreed. He behaved amazingly, and I am very proud of him….I don’t regret the experience at all, and none of us think it’s weird whatsoever.”
And he’s apparently an amazing uncle, probably because he knows exactly how hard it is to bring his nieces and nephews into the world in the first place.
