Pretty much everyone knows that fast food employees work long hours for very little money, on top of having to deal with demands from irate customers, less than stellar working conditions, and so on. As such, a viral TikTok video of a Subway worker literally falling asleep on the very sandwich that she was in the process of making has opened up a dialogue about how we treat our essential employees.
The video in question was captured by TikTok user @ss4xgoku1, who captioned it, "Like fr… I js wanted a Sandwich bro." "This lady fell asleep on my sandwich," added overlaid text, alongside three "unamused face" emojis.
As the video began to go viral, people began to express sympathy for the plight of the poor Subway employee.
“Poor thing," commented skincare influencer Hyram. Can’t imagine how underslept she is, we’re too hard on service workers." “Man this is more heartbreaking than anything. I hope she’s ok,” added YouTuber Garrett Watts. Others added comments that maybe, instead of filming, the TikTok user should have checked to see if the woman was alright.
Gossip blogger Perez Hilton also shamed the video's creator, asking them to "please remove" it. However, the TikTok user shot back, claiming that the woman was high on drugs. "She screamed at me right after and said she wasn’t even asleep,” they added.
In response to the backlash, the TikTok user also added an update asking people to stop with the negative comments. "The lady woke up after the video ended, she is fine she just needs to not do drugs before work."
Either way, whether overworked or addicted to drugs, hopefully the woman is able to get the break, or help, she needs. Ain't nobody need to be taking a nap on a dang Subway sandwich.
