Couples and family photoshoots have become an increasingly popular way to capture important milestones such as engagements or pregnancies for posterity. Every now and then, these types of photoshoots might go viral on the internet for being exceptionally clever or heartwarming. But for an interracial couple who participated in a now-viral cotton field photoshoot, this is certainly not the case.
The photos were brought to public awareness by Twitter user Pat Harrington (@bandeauxpat), who tweeted the photos on Tuesday. Though the identities of the couple and the date of the photoshoot are unclear, they show a Black man and white woman posing together in a cotton field. In one of the three cringe-worthy photos, the man actually holds a piece of cotton up in the air while he and his boo share a tender kiss and embrace.
“In a cotton field?” Harrington tweeted, incredulously. The tweet has since been liked and retweeted hundreds of thousands of times.
Though, what’s also unclear is the purpose of the photoshoot—why, much less, it took place in a cotton field. There doesn’t appear to be a ring on the young woman’s left hand, nor does she appear to be displaying a visible baby bump.
Nevertheless, the photos quickly went viral on Twitter, where others likewise reacted with anger and flabbergasted disbelief.
“Another black brother lost and confused smh,” wrote one user, while another added, “Look at that dummy f—king holding it damn.” Plenty of others had similar sentiments, reacting with jokes and memes.
And they said Get Out was a work of fiction…
