Last week, New York Times’s documentary Framing Britney Spears exposed the controversy surrounding the pop star’s conservatorship. It also examined the difficulties Spears has faced with her mistreatment at the hands of the media and paparazzi.
The documentary has sparked a huge discussion online, including backlash for the way her one-time-boyfriend Justin Timberlake treated her in the aftermath of their breakup.
Spears has remained silent about the documentary but her boyfriend, Sam Ashgari, has not.
Spears and Ashgari have been together since 2016.
Yesterday, Sam told People Magazine:
“I have always wanted nothing but the best for my better half, and will continue to support her following her dreams and creating the future she wants and deserves. I am thankful for all of the love and support she is receiving from her fans all over the world, and I am looking forward to a normal, amazing future together.”
However, his recent Instagram story painted a very different picture. In it, Ashgari said:
“Now, it’s important for people to understand that I have zero respect for someone trying to control our relationship and constantly throwing obstacles in our way. In my opinion, Jamie is a total dick. I won’t be going into details because I’ve always respected our privacy, but at the same time, I didn’t come to this country to not be able to express my opinion and freedom.”
Jamie, who Ashgari calls out specifically, is Spears’ father, who has retained full legal control over his daughter’s estate since 2008. Ashgari and Spears’ relationship has very likely been influenced by Jamie Spears, thus sparking the frustration and Instagram story.
