Vet Clinic Offering Chocolate ‘Goodbye Kisses’ For Dogs Getting Put Down Goes Viral

A veterinary clinic in Alabama is triggering tears after sharing a photo of the sweet treat they keep on hand for dogs that are on their way to cross over the Rainbow Bridge.

There are plenty of human foods that aren’t suitable for dogs, and can trigger negative reactions or even death, but the most commonly known one is probably chocolate. Any pet owner whose precocious pooch has ever gotten into their stash of Reese’s or dug a half-eaten brownie out of the trash knows the panic that follows. Dogs are never, ever allowed to eat chocolate.

But the rules change in those final moments, and Smiths Station Animal Hospital is ready.

“This jar is reserved for our euthanasia appointments…because no dog should go to Heaven without tasting chocolate,” they wrote on Facebook, alongside a photo of a jar of chocolate, devastatingly labeled “goodbye kisses.”
