Potato was found living on the streets of China, where he had been sick and abandoned for two years before getting rescued by a local shelter. Unfortunately, when he was finally rescued, Potato was in bad condition and was found to have been suffering from a rare tumor called ceruminous adenoma in his ear canals and flaps. Though veterinarians attempted to remove the adenoma, they soon realized that it would be necessary to remove his canals and flaps to prevent the tumor from coming back.

But on the bright side—that hasn’t stopped Potato, who has since found his furever home where he has been recovering with the help of his new best friend Horlick, a handsome ginger tabby who he met in the shelter.

His new owners have even set up an Instagram account to document the life and times of Potato and Horlick—who boast over 12,000 followers on the platform. And in a happy update, they have revealed that he can even still hear with his ear canals and ear flaps removed!

Final <We are family> After three days of separation, Potato had a different look and the smell of the clinic. What would happen when he met Horlick again? In order to better observe the recovery of Potato, ensure the medicine could be fed, and prevent Horlick from accidentally injuring the wounds of Potato, the couple decided to let Potato rest in the cage. Maybe because Potato had eaten a bit in the afternoon, when he returned to his familiar home, he did not look too tired, yet his appetite was still poor. As for Horlick, he was still so calm. He came to Potato, took a look and after a few kind meow-ings, he continued his activities. Their relationship is strong but inexpressive, just echoes with the scene of Potato first arrival and reunited with Horlick after 9 months of separation (see Chapter 4). Soon after, Potato fell asleep peacefully. The couple did not have any experience in feeding medicine to cats. This was what they worried most at the moment. Fortunately, Potato was cooperative, and also started to eat. In order to prevent him from scratching the wounds, the couple tried to put on a cat cone for him but he was very resistant whether it was hard or soft. Maybe because he had no ears, he could always take off the cone from his head. The couple eventually gave up the cone, as they were afraid that his wounds would be hurt when he forcibly took off the cone. Gratefully, Potato did not scratch the wounds which showed no signs of inflammation. A few days later, the couple received good news from the clinic – Potato’s ear tissue was confirmed to be non-cancerous! Two weeks later, Potato returned to the clinic for re-examination and stitch removal. Good things came one after another. The fundraising of the medical expenses of Potato was successfully completed! As the happy ending of the Story of Potato, the couple officially adopted Potato! He and Horlick do not need to be separated again. “Potato was a stray cat, so no one knows when he was born or how old he is,” his owners say, though they estimate Potato to be about six-years-old.

Judging by the photos, it would appear that Potato and Horlick are very much happy in their new home.
