People Are Giving Their Cats Eggs To See If They’ll Be Gentle With Them

Cats may be fierce and monstrous creatures, likely hell-bent on world domination or at least determined to constantly assert their superiority over the humans residing within their domain.

But, as any cat lover will tell you, these critters also have a gentle side. Some may even say that their prickliness ultimately only serves to accentuate their love — when they deem the situation or person worthy of such a display.

A new trend on TikTok is certainly serving up the sweetness when it comes to our feline friends.

People with cats are handing off eggs to their kitties, to see what they’ll do. Theoretically, according to @annafromtiktok, they’ll “protect it, because it’s fragile.”

She tested out the theory, and sure enough, her sleepy little kitty opted to lick the egg rather than sink its fangs into it for disturbing her slumber.

Other cat parents had similar results with their precious fur babies.

Though some cats weren’t completely sold on having this new and unexpected responsibility thrust upon them.

The whole thing sounds a lot like the “give a baby an egg” challenge that was going around TikTok earlier this year, also with the premise that a tiny human’s natural instinct is also to protect the egg.

At this point, it seems entirely likely that folks on TikTok are just going around giving eggs to whatever small things live in their homes just for kicks and something to post online, rather than as a result of an actual social theory.

But for those of us who would rather watch videos of cats than babies, this version of the trend is way, way cuter.

In conclusion…different cats react in entirely different ways to being given an egg and it probably means absolutely nothing. But any excuse to show off your pets on the internet is worth the time. And occasionally a broken egg.
